The instrument
cause a wave of excitement both in my workshop and in my family. The builders
were simply astonished when they heard the sound coming out of this little
orchestra. My wife and children could not stop say "Que linda ! "(How beautiful
!) when they looked at her during the photo/video session. This is the
type of commotion that an instrument of this caliber can generate.
The back and sides are at least
67 years old. The set is from Minas Gerais (Brazil) . The figuring on the
set is unbelievable. It seems to be about to come alive and it is like
a magnet for the eyes. Stripes of every possible shade of brown, beige,
green and black make her look like an Amazonian Anaconda. Spectacular.
I matched the back with the more even cut of the wood for the sides creating
a spectacular contrast.
The western redcedar top adds a
velvet quality to the sound that makes it irresistible. The punch and power
of the instrument is unequaled by any instrument I played in the past.
Huge waves of sound emanate from the instrument and I cannot believe that
she's just a few hours old (less than a day old). The punch in the bass
line is astonishing. The mid range frequencies have a magical effect on
the trebles in that they shine with a beauty and softness seldom heard.
The finishing details were applied so as not to interfere wit the center
stage looks of the back and sides. Triple neck reinforcement and African
Padauk bindings melt the parts together bringing to life one of the most
striking instruments ever.
