Brazilian rosewood
(41 years), Sinker redwood (180 years old). Fantastic guitar !
........SAMPLE
The
set of Brazilian rosewood that my Brazilian rosewood supplier sent me from
Rio de Janeiro was simply irresistible. Beautiful figure, tight tiger-like
grain, and a tap tone to die for. The set was very well preserved
with wax all around. I selected, bindings, linings and purflings
to harmonize everything perfectly. I even matched her with a VERY RARE
tiger macassar ebony neck, bridge and headplate. It is hard to look away
from this babe ! An impressive 90.0 dbs are put out at 9 feet from
the digital db meter. Sinker redwood needs at least 4 weeks to open up.
I can hardly imagine what this super guitar will sound like then. Brazilian
rosewood for the bindings. Exclusive luxury purflings and linings. The
sound is awesome. The 180 years old redwood top vibrates generously
and the whole instrument feels and sounds fabulous. Without any doubt,
one of the best Bellucci guitars to date. In Baroque repertoire the instrument
put every note in the right place and the bass reverberates generously.
The bass has a wonderful, deep owl-like sound that I seldom hear...in Spanish
repertoire the guitar is as aggressive as her tiger looks...great attack
and response of the strings. An A+ on all fronts ! I used La Bella medium
tension strings but I know Hannabach or D' Addario high tension would have
been a much better option.
About
Sinker logs (image) like the ones above are pulled from the bottom of lakes
and rivers. Most of these logs are hundreds of years old (the picture in
the middle above shows that the tree was cut with an hatchet). Due to a
series of factors (The logs were too big and heavy to be pulled out of
the rivers or the logs were caught by currents and were sucked to the bottom)
these logs were trapped by the muddy buttons of these water beds and this
created like a time capsule where the wood was preserved in fantastic humidity
conditions that made the wood season in a slow natural way during many
centuries. Some of the logs are selected for musical instruments construction.
The sound that these woods produce is unique and the grain has a beautiful
coloration that matches all types of woods for the back and sides. The
tree from which this top was extraced, was cut down around the time when
America was struggling for her independence from the English ! Needless
to say, this master grade sinker redwood was VERY expensive.
